Outbound Study

Who can go

Local and international students are eligible to apply to participate in the exchange program.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the exchange program, you must:

Undergraduate

  • Be enrolled as a full-time student at Curtin.
  • Have successfully completed one full semester of study (100 credits) at the time of application and completed one full year (200 credits) by the time you leave.
  • Have a good academic record - generally this means a semester weighted average of 60 or better. You need to have passed all your units.
  • Obtain a reference from an academic staff member of Curtin (see the Forms page for a Confidential Reference form).

Postgraduate

  • Already be an enrolled student at Curtin.
  • Be undertaking exchange studies by coursework.
  • Have successfully completed 75 credits as a postgraduate student. If you have a Curtin undergraduate degree this can be negotiated.
  • Have a good academic record - generally this means a semester weighted average of 60 or better. You need to have passed all your units.
  • Obtain a reference from an academic staff member of Curtin (see the Forms page for a Confidential Reference form).

Students should discuss their exchange study intentions with their Course Co-ordinator or Academic Adviser to find out if their program can accommodate an education abroad experience.

International Students

International students studying at Curtin can be considered for the exchange program, provided they meet the same eligibility criteria for other Curtin students. However, international students do have additional responsibilities to ensure their Australian Student Visa is not cancelled while they are out of Australia.

In addition to the above eligibility criteria, you must obtain a letter from Curtin stating:

International Students must then visit the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) office in person at least 28 days before departure and present the original of the letter, together with your current passport.

This process will assist you in the immigration clearance process when you depart and return to Australia.
