Outbound Study

How to apply

So you've made the decision to go on exchange. It is advisable to prepare your application early (6-12 months prior to proposed exchange). Exchange programs can take a while to organise so ensure you check application deadlines.

* Application deadlines vary from country to country. Please refer to the relevant partner information sheet for individual deadlines. The Exchange Office requires applications 3 weeks prior to the partner's deadline.

Applying for your exchange is simple if you follow the steps below:

  1. Contact the Exchange Office to discuss your options and to ensure you meet all requirements outlined in the eligibility section.

  2. Research possible destinations thoroughly, ensuring that adequate units are available for your particular course/degree.

  3. Seek approval from your division to participate in the exchange program and negotiate credits.

  4. Collect the Curtin application pack from the Exchange Office.

  5. Complete and submit application to the Exchange Office by the required deadline. Ensure all documents are completed correctly to avoid delays. Please ensure you list two partner universities, in order of preference.

  6. The Exchange Office will then advise you of the outcome of your application into the Curtin Exchange Program. If accepted the Exchange Office will provide you with the partner university's application pack to be completed and submitted by the partner application deadline, to the Exchange Office.

  7. The Exchange Office will submit your application to the partner university. Please be aware that it may take some time to hear back from the partner university, so please be patient.

  8. You will receive an acceptance letter from the partner by email or post. To accept your offer please complete the relevant documents and return the Curtin Exchange Office. The Exchange Office will forward the information to the partner on your behalf.

  9. Change your enrolment at Curtin to International Study (Study Exchange) - between 75 and 100 credits.

* VISA - it is the responsibility of the student to organise a visa. Documents which allow you to apply for a visa to a particular country are included in the acceptance package from the partner university. Contact the local embassy of the host country to make visa arrangements or contact the Exchange Office for help.

Organising Accommodation

You are responsible for making your own accommodation arrangements overseas.

In most cases, an accommodation request form is included in the host institution application package provided by the Exchange Office. If this form is not included, you should contact the host institution directly to make your arrangements (the contact details of the overseas exchange coordinator can be obtained from the partner information sheet or the Curtin Exchange Office).

Withdrawing from the Exchange Program

If you decide you no longer wish to participate in the Exchange Program, you can withdraw before you depart. You will need to contact the Exchange Office to advise of your withdrawal from the program.

It is then your responsibility to organise your re-enrolment at Curtin for that semester with your divisional student service office.
